Netflix Shows if you love Photography

Chasing Ice

PG-13 | 1h 15 min | Documentary
IMDB: 7.8/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 7.5/10
National Geographic photographer James Balog is on a quest to capture the affects of global warming. Watch it all unfold in beautiful time-lapse videos.

Takeaway for your Photography

Photo journalism at its best. National Geographic photographer James Balog shows it like it is. It was not an easy job and borderline dangerous to film the locations in given conditions. Despite this there is beautiful photography in the film. The passion of the team is admirable and motivating. The biggest takeaway is to learn how to photograph in extreme conditions. It is a must see show if you love photography. 5/5 rating from me.

Tales by the Light

23 min | Documentary | Tv-mini Series
IMDB: 8.4/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 94% liked it

Every episode is based on a photographer where they follow their adventures. Watch how the lives of photographers from around the world are.

Takeaway for Photographers

There are not too many documentaries this indulging. I don't recall documentaries where you see multiple episodes in a single run. Tales by light was one of those for me. Each episode follows a different photographer and covers their niche, their philosophy about life and their techniques. It's like living vicariously a very different and interesting life. Not only it is thoroughly entertaining but its great to learn and see different perspectives and inspiring compositions. Highly recommended show if you like photography. 5/5 rating from me.

Conflict

35 min | Documentary | Tv-mini Series
IMDB: 7.9/10

Every episode they follow a photo journalist into the less spoken part of the world they have been. It shows how it takes a toll on them by covering war, violence and the dark side of this world.

Takeaway for your Photography

This show covers 6 photo journalists who share their experiences covering the atrocities of war and violence. This is the very extreme end of photography. Covering this kind of suffering in the world have an impact which is clearly visible in their tone and expression. This is a very dark and depressing show but does a real good job at showing the darker end of photo journalism. If you are into street photography specially photo journalism you will love this. 5/5 rating from me.

Abstract

25 min | Documentary | Tv-mini Series
IMDB: 8.6/10
Every episode they follow an artist from a different field of life. Its not directly related to photography but quite good at showing the lives of artists and how they draw inspiration.

Takeaway for Photography

This show is great for getting inspiration for your images. The artist's stories and work is truly inspiring. The show is well directed and the creators have done a good job at showing what goes behind the creation of 'art'. I'll recommend this show to any photographer who wants to get inspiration and improve his work. 4.5/5 rating from me.

Moving Art

25 min | Documentary | Tv-mini Series
IMDB: 8.8/10

Watch beautiful time lapses of nature.

Takeaway for Photographers

Love time-lapses? You will love this show. This show is pure inspiration. There is no commentary and story telling but the gap is filled with spectacular images and music. The music is absolutely beautiful and goes well with the cinematography. The episodes are only 25 minutes long and perfect for binge watching while binge eating. If you have a 4k TV and a good internet connection then you are in for a treat. I'll recommend this show to a photographer for getting inspiration. 3.5/5 rating from me.
